Gitana / Gypsy

In this episode of Shakipedia, Cally and Alejandra dive deep into Gypsy / Gitana, the fourth single from She Wolf — and one of the most debated songs in Shakira’s catalog. We break down the song’s unusual backstory, including how it was originally written for another artist, the two songwriting teams behind it, and how Shakira reshaped it into both an English and Spanish version. We explore why Gypsy stands out from the rest of She Wolf, how Gitana became the fan-favorite with help from Jorge Drexler, the song’s chart performance, its flamenco-infused live performances, and the iconic Rafael Nadal music video. Plus, we get into lyrical highs (and lows), cultural critiques, and whether this track ever should’ve been a single at all.Stick around for our favorite lyrics, some spicy fandom opinions, and our official crayons and dolls rating.
